History
The collaboration that led to the creation of Schaller Anderson in 1986 began two
years earlier, when Dr. Don Schaller and Joe Anderson worked together to improve
the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), the nation's first statewide
Medicaid program based on managed care principles. The partnership was a success,
and in 1986 Dr. Schaller and Mr. Anderson joined with Patricia Davis to create Schaller
Anderson.
Initially a consulting firm, Schaller Anderson broadened its scope to include health
plan administration. Today, Schaller Anderson offers management and consulting services
to governments and private health care organizations nationwide.
Early consulting projects
- Designed and created Arizona's Medicaid system for long term care patients
- Developed a health plan for low-income people in the state of Washington
- Operated and liquidated a chain of nursing homes as a court-appointed receiver
- Provided consulting services for Arizona Physicians IPA, Inc. (APIPA), the largest
Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) plan in the state
- Created and administered a Medicaid health plan in the state of New Mexico
Our first plan management services agreement started in 1989 when we provided senior
management for APIPA. In 1995, we opened our first out-of-state office and began
our first full turnkey management agreement with Heartland Health Plan of Oklahoma.
Other offices followed, and we currently provide full turnkey services for several
Medicaid health plans:
- Children's Hospital of Orange County Health Alliance (California)
- Delaware Physicians Care
- Maryland Health Insurance Plan
- Maryland Physicians Care
- Missouri Care
- Mercy Care Plan (Arizona)
Additionally, we are piloting a program through MaineCare to offer comprehensive
care management services to a select group of the state of Maine's Medicaid members.
We administer health plans for employers, including Scripps in California and Catholic
Healthcare West in Arizona.
We use the latest technology to get information to providers quickly to support
access to care for members, partnering with providers to make sure members get the
care they need in the right setting at the right time.
We administer behavioral health benefits for individuals covered by public programs,
employers or group health plans.
